HAVE A DREAM

Have a dream
Have a dream

Sometimes! We meet people with different dreams in life; some with strange one, some with dreams bigger than them, some with dreams without relevance or purpose, and some with dreams that are in bits (phases). Nevertheless, you find those without any dream in life, they are just living on earth to while away their time (no dream, no motivation, no aspiration, no purpose).

While I read about men and women who have made impart and significant touch in their world or our world at large, most of them had dream (no matter how little their dream might have been), it motivated them. They lived for their dream and were able to overcome obstacles that tried to limit them from it. People like: Martin Luther King, Mother Theresa, J. F. Kennedy, Albert Einstein, Abraham Lincoln, Nelson Mandela and so many others in different part of the world including great men of God (although this office is by auction, not ordinary) . They lived for this course.

I learnt that in most cases, their dream help to build the perspective or spectacle they view the world with. But now, you see some people shouting “This world is not my home, am just passing through”, another saying “I know the world is not my home because death is inevitable, but am going to leave it better than I met it”, and you keep hearing all sort of things. Please, who does not know that people give birth and die every day, and so it means there is a period to be spent on earth because of death.

Just a thought to help each other, I think you need to know what category or how you see the world (it will help a long way). For me, I belong to the category of those ; “who want to leave the world better than they met it or as a better place”. We may believe in different things or few things (ideas, concept, beliefs), but at some points in life, we do have common interest, desire or dream which brings us together. And so,

“I have a dream …that people (believers) will influence their world or change lives even with their mind set on eternity,
…that goodly people will no longer leave the earth to be controlled or dominated by evil ones,
...that the righteous will rise to every sector of the world: politics, business, education, careers, ministry, technology, entertainment and many other sectors.
…that the wicked, unrighteous and evil men in our world (society, nation and world at large) will no longer make decisions that affects the lives of  innocent and good souls."

It looks like my dream is short but bigger than me, I guess! This was how it looked for people around Martin Luther too, but he dreamed and got results that lasted even after his death. Because, people with such dreams were never alone, they shared it and those who eventually believed or had interest in their dream ran along with them.
J. F. Kennedy quote
J. F. Kennedy Quote

I challenge you today to have a dream that will change your world and souls around you, without jeopardizing your faith or end goal of eternity. And, I also think its fine to meet people with the same dream (aspiration) in life, because they will contribute and help you in achieving your dream.

It is obvious that one’s dream can motivate and affect a lot of things about his one's life: career, lifestyle, education, faith, relationship in our world.
I intend to close this article with this:
“Don’t think about what your country will do for you, think about what you will do for your country” -  J.F. Kennedy

THE CHALLENGE OF GREATNESS!

LEARNING NEVER STOPS

Learning
Just as discussed in one of the previous article about my country’s (Nigeria) educational scheme. A lot of people especially young minds still conceive learning or education as being in the “four walls of a classroom” and going to school as the only way to success in life. If I may ask or throw some questions or thoughts at you:

  • Have you not seen or heard about people who dropped out of school and still became successful in life? (like in business, family …)
  • Have you not seen or met parents who only got basic education (reading and writing) and are successful in their business, career, marriage or family?
  • Have you not seen or heard about people who mastered certain trade, vocation or skills and made significant wealth for themselves, family and future?
  • Have you not seen or met undergraduate employing graduates to work for them or their organization (I wouldn’t ask the reverse because it's common)?
  • Have you not seen or heard about people who were successful or passed in school but failed in life?

The fact is that there are many factors that could have led to all of the above scenarios. And there are many factors in life that can lead to failure or success of an individual in different aspect of life. But there is a common factor that ought to draw our attention - “LEARNING”

This should imply that there is so much things to learn in life beyond the “four walls of a classroom”. So much knowledge to acquire about various aspect of life: spiritual, mental, career, emotional, marital, social and so on.
So, I ask myself this question which we all need to ask ourselves too,
“Must I learn (know) about everything or every aspect of life? If yes! Why? and If No! what are the things that are essential to learn (know) about?”

There seems to be billions of knowledge or things to learn about, in life due to the various aspect of life (it’s still one life we all have but different aspects). I mean, not everyone goes to school to study the same course or learns the same vocation to earn a living, not everyone will have the same marriage partner or been in love with a particular person (man or woman), not everybody will make friend with those you choose to make friends with ...

Quotes on learning
LEARNING QUOTE

Irrespective of all these differences and varieties of life, there are some general knowledge (learning) that are imperative, that is, absolutely essential for life. The moment anyone refuses to learn about them [I shake my head!], such person is doom or prone to failure in LIFE. Ask yourself what you need to learn or make research concerning; be it spiritual, health, mental, emotional, business, job and so on. By this, you already know that the kind of success been discuss is “All-round success or achievement in every aspect of one’s life” not “Success as the measure or worth people give you in the society”.

So, I stumbled on few quotes:
“Once you stop learning, you start dying” – Albert Einstein
“Life is about learning; when you stop learning, you die” - Tom Clancy
“Learning never stops until you are dead. And you become dead, the moment or day you decided to stop learning”
I conclude this session with the above quotes on learning (knowledge), Let’s do justice to it concerning life. And please do not confuse this with the ways of learning or how to learn in life.
Also, don’t forget to drop your comment or contribution. Thanks!

NIGERIA'S EDUCATIONAL SCHEME NEEDS REVIEW

Nigeria's Educational System

I hope you were shocked when your lecturer called you “Half-baked” in your finals at the university or tertiary education, after spending the proposed time or even more in the education system.
In every country, there is an educational plan for all children for those who choose to become literate. Most of which engage more than or exactly the first decade (20 years) of one’s life in the four walls of a room. Aside which, there are other informal education from parents, neighbors and elders in the community.

In the Nigerian educational system, the focus is on one’s careers, future and becoming relevant in the society, which is building leaders of tomorrow. One could say that it was a perfect plan at some point in time (maybe in the early 19’s), as there were more job vacancies and less graduates to occupy them. Government and firms literarily employ the best or most of the educated elite then.

The employment market began to change its course, as there were more graduates than job vacancies. Because, a lot of parents started thinking education in school was the only way to succeed, become respectable in the society, and even give their wards their future. They started withdrawing their wards totally from vocational commitment and sending them to schools. In fact, most parents wanted their children to study certain courses at tertiary institutions, determining the department they choose right from secondary education. Truth be told, most were successful with this, until the last few years.

However, tertiary institutions had increased their capacity to accommodate more students by introducing new courses and department. But, only few students were aware of it, I mean, very few. There are some selected courses or careers that are been presented at secondary schools for each departments. They are:

Science – Doctor, Pharmacy, Engineering, Economist
Commercial – Accountant, Banker, Business/public administration
Art – Lawyer, Newscaster, Mass communication, Artiste

I also passed through the system, so I can tell that almost 90% of students built their dreams, hope and future on the above courses or careers. They will literarily call one of the above names if you ask, “Where will you be in the next 4 or 5 years?”

On their dream pursuit, crossing over from secondary to tertiary education is another war on its own with a lot of stress. But this is not the major concern in this article. There is joy and celebration when one matriculates into the tertiary education. And of course, it can be said that the serious and diligent students will graduate with their best irrespective of the hurdles, struggles and torment they face while schooling (indeed).

Let’s rewind a little bit. Did it ever occur to most of us to think or ask, if we have passion for what we are studying? The relevance of the course in the labor markets? The additional skills or essential experience attach to the field? If we ought to have certain training, skill acquisition, professional certification, workshop and internship that are necessary? Because the truth is that most firms will never employ people with just degree and good grades (gone are the days).

Okay! Wait a minute, I thought we were in school to acquire enough knowledge, if not all but essential information about our career or future. I know this is why over a decade of our life is been dedicated to it. But you see, most teachings or lectures in schools were focused on Head-knowledge or theoretical part, this was why most of us were trained to work for firms, seek for employment, seek to have a spot in governmental organizations, and even seek connection for jobs. Another bitter truth is simply that we were been taught to be employed by others.

Furthermore, there is virtually no training or challenge to create new jobs in the society, become self-employed or start a legit business (small or large scale). This seems to be the major cause of high rate of unemployment or graduates being unemployed (not lamenting that government did not create new employments). It can be argued that a lot of graduates possess the capacity or ability to create jobs if given the right information at the right time. It does not matter if the resource for creating one is unavailable before or upon graduation. But no! no challenge or question on how one can create job opportunities or become self-employed.

At this point, a lot of graduates are now aware of the online courses and professional certifications including experience that can boost their qualification for jobs, seminars and training, that can help improve their talents, petite businesses, ideas and so on. Knowing fully well that career pursuit is beyond just theories, most include practicals and conversion of knowledge to skill (all or most of these are offered and provided by foreign countries).

Here is my thought, truly one cannot neglect or undermine the importance of basic education (learning to read and write), because it is needed and essential at one point or another. But the fact is that our educational scheme can be better: the primary education can give room for other things like talent discovery and extracurricular activities that will help children, even as their parents assist to guide their paths in life. While the secondary, can change or upgrade its scheme to offer various careers awareness and information to the young minds for better choice of career  pursuit.

In other words, education remains the key and cornerstone to greatness in career pursuit, but success in life is beyond classroom, having good grades in examination or reading books (theories) alone. Education is also one of the mediums or paths to finding and fulfilling one’s crave for success in life.

What do you think? We can help by spreading a lot of necessary information to these your minds in different ways. And also influence those that have or own educational platforms.

PARENTS ARE THE FIRST HELPER IN YOUR WORLD

Parents are helpers

Seriously! Can you imagine a world where babies just appear or are sent down from a baby factory (like the movie “Boss Baby”). I mean, where couples or opposite sex do not come together to make babies. Instead, you just see babies on the street, road, entrance door or anywhere, and pick the ones you like or choose to train up. It sounds ridiculous, I guess! But let’s continue the journey.

So, how did you feel or respond when you came to the awareness that you were born to the present family you belong to now? Some people will say; they didn’t choose the family, they just found themselves there, neither did they choose the time to come (whether as the first or last born). I think it’s true, I mean, if a lot of us had the opportunity to choose our family; some couples will have so many children while others will have less or none (funny!). Yes! Because a lot of babies or children will want couples who can give them all their needs (beyond physical needs) and the best of life. So, it not about how beautiful, loving, caring or romantic your family is, that is been discussed (actually, a lot of us will still choose the same family over and over again in this case).

Guess what? I perceive that there are so many questions or things that require explanations and answers in our physical world. Like, why some children are fortunate to be born in wealthy families while others are born into abject poverty and struggling ones? The Creator (God) knows you will be born to that family or situation you are right now; this is why there are parents in our world and the world at large.

Parents are definitely the first helper sent to children (you) in this world by the creator (God). Why do I think so? With all the biological explanations, it is certain that your parents did not create or form you. They actually gave birth or conceived you by coming together (biological make up). How your spirit entered the body they were carrying, is still unknown to them.

At birth, the “mind of a child” is empty and plain (“Tabular Rasa” meaning “Clean slate”) - nothing is known. Your parents are the ones that train, care, teach, build, guide, mentor, and inspire you. One does not know anything at all because every knowledge or idea is learnt in this world. So, if you are given good or bad information and ideas, it mostly likely will have effect on you. Before you know it, you begin to emulate their lifestyle and everything about them.

I may not be able to give accurate percentage of parents that helped the children live good and worthy life, even though some have done otherwise. The good parents or successful ones are more than the opposite, in the world. This article seem to be concern about parents that have become “helpers” or “heroes” and not otherwise, because they are the ones making the society and our world a better place to live in. Sincerely, I definitely know that there are people who are victims of bad parenthood or never had someone to care for them due to one reason or another.

“Parents are the first helper God (Creator) sent to you. Even though some have proven otherwise, we ought to still celebrate and honor them”

Deep thought, you might never be able or probably wouldn’t be on earth, if your parents never came together to have you. Whether you would have been born by another parent (couple) or in the next life, we all don’t know. So what we should think about is the opportunity they offered to come into the world through them and so, they ought to be honored and celebrated for it.

Above all, whether you are a parent already or will soon become one; think about celebrating those that sacrificed a lot for you (you are definitely a child to someone). They may not have possessed all the money you needed or wanted, but they stood as your first HELPER: your coach, mentor, guardian, teacher … in this world. Because without them, think about where you would become, how you would have lived, how a lot of things would have been difficult. So, celebrate and honor them in your own way and grand style for the wonderful opportunity.

Remember the bastards, vagabonds and orphans all around the world, a lot of them are craving for a helper (parent). So, stretch out helping hands to them because they never had the opportunity you and most of us had or the one you are taking for granted. And if there are any problem with your parenthood, make changes.
Think about this!

EXPLOITING OTHERS, WITH JOY

What does it mean to exploit others, with joy?
Yes! exploiting others, each other, ourselves.
Sometimes, we ought to wonder what’s going wrong with the economy or why the sudden increase in price of daily necessities. You wake up the next day to hear that what you bought yesterday is now twice of its price. The truth is that if the money is available or surplus, you don’t care; you say “as long as I have the money in my wallet” and “God will continue to provide”.

Have you ever thought about it,
“Dollar has increase in value, so why should the price of tomatoes, foodstuff, house rent, biscuit and other basic necessities that are not imported also increase?”
Well, in my own honest opinion, some things are trivialized and taken for granted in our society. As we operate in various sectors of the economy - being business owners or capitalist. We determine most of want happens in the business world.

“Selling a product or commodity twice its Cost price (all expenses been added) or its original price (manufacturing and additional expense)” is not making profit; it is called exploitation. Exploitation! How? Why? What sense? “taking advantage of other” due to one reason or another.

Some will even misquote a law in economics by saying, “…the higher the demand; the higher the price, and the lower the demand; the lower the price... ”
This is a law that was built or philosophies many years back by one person or philosopher, who was living a different lifestyle or in a different condition at that time. Most individuals have never thought of changing or challenging it because it works well for the business, selfish interest and greed. This is why even those who did not attend school or never studied economics know the law.

Exploitation and making Profit are not the same, even though they look similar in this context. When you exploit (take advantage of) certain individuals, they also exploit others, because the flow must continue, until, it lands on certain group of people in the society; either the poor or the masses. This is one of the ways we make life hard or difficult for each other.

I came across this lately and it got me thinking. It kind of explain how business owners will say they are helping the buyer (by supplying their needs):
"The terrible immoralities are the cunning ones hiding behind the mask of morality, such as exploiting people while pretending to help them."
Vernon Howard (evaluate the words not personality)

Let’s remind ourselves of two frequent scenarios in our society, as most people may still argue for or against the increase in dollar price being the major cause of the cost of living.

For instance: “the sudden need for protective or safety kits as a result of the pandemic disease. The price of such kits increased overnight, like nose cover was changed from #50 to #200 (no genuine reason or logic behind). Some people even had to improvise using handkerchief, and the same increase happened too! As soon as the need was announced, before all the economic and demand factors started setting in”
Critically analyzing the above, you will discover that the cost of producing the nose cover never changed overnight as a result of unavailability of raw materials, demand, taxation or other factors yet. Neither is it the case that profit made when sold at the initial price was not enough. Also, am sure the manufacturer would never have ventured into such business if there was no profit involved (I mean that why its called business not charity). It was just the mere announcement of the crisis or urgent need that made sellers triple the initial price.

Another case: “In places like Lagos, you wake up on a Monday morning to resume workplace or daily duty. You will be shocked that your initial transportation free has been double for no tangible or legit excuse. Neither is there fuel scarcity nor value added, it was just traffic (because you will still see government transport system till operating at cheaper price)”
You begin to see workers, business owners and students panic or lament. We fail to tell each other the truth and voice out. We keep managing and adapting till we can no more do so or die of worries.

Corruption is at your doorstep or around you, and you are worried about those at the top or political leaders who are not concern about your welfare. Some will even start accusing the government for what they are not aware of. What happened to the NURTW leaders at the motor park or agencies set up to regulate certain affairs? Most of them are humans like you and I, living among us (society), who failed to do their parts or responsibilities.

As long as such continue to happen, everyone will continue to exploit each other (in fact with joy) until we all decide to face the problem by influencing each other’s decision in business, in the society and in the country at large. Every business owner will continue to increase their exploitation rate: in schools, foodstuff sales, supermarkets, housing/accommodation owners and every capitalist around.

For Christians or religious minds like me, you are happy exploiting others too, because they did it to you first or to maintain your standard of living. You are different, so act like one. Don’t give excuses or plan to even “sanctify” (tithe) such money. Know what you are doing because every little change or influence you make in your world matters a lot. Your business life is not separate from the life you have, God is concern about all that you do (every aspect of life).
Don’t say: “Business is business, God has nothing to do with business...” yet, you pray to God to bless your business.

I guess by now you understand what I mean by: exploiting others, with joy.
How much can we influence our world and how serious are the little things we take for granted...
Please! make sure you drop your comment.

MANAGE YOUR MONEY (Money Is Never Enough)

MANAGE YOUR MONEY (Looks like money is never enough)
Have you ever wondered why money is never enough, why the rich get richer and the poor get poorer? The fact remains that irrespective of your social class (rich or poor); one will continue to desire or look for money.

I came across these words one day and it really got me thinking:
“If you will ever build wealth, you need to spend less than you earn. You need to discipline yourself and exercise self-control”          Pastor Sam Adeyemi (evaluate the quote, not personality)
It’s obvious that money is never enough: the more you have; the more you want to spend, and the more you want to spend; the more you want to replace. We all have default setting or nature to spend money; we don’t learn it. Even a child, once he or she comes to know or gets to the stage of identifying his or her physical needs, the child either asks the parent for them or for money to get them. Money is like the exchange currency everyone requires to get their physical lack or want.

But, every individual ought to learn how to manage their money or resources in life, through self-discipline and self-control. Just like Pastor Sam Adeyemi’s quote, you will discover that most rich people discipline themselves in order not to go down (become poor), while the poor also do the same, to build wealth or change their financial status (become rich).

The moment anyone in any of these social class lack these two factors or qualities, they suddenly meet themselves in an undesired state (either poor or poorer), but not rich.
“You can become poor overnight, but, you cannot become rich overnight”
The guys you see at the top class or that are wealthy, did not get there over the night. It took a lot of patience and process: am not taking about politicians, those who impoverish the society or those rich kids who woke up to meet wealth. This is why you see those who made wealth overnight or in a dubious way (like money ritual or fraudsters), it does not take long for them to return to their original position or status.

It can be said that self-discipline and self-control brings the culture of “saving”. Always save a certain percentage of your income irrespective of your expenses, needs or lack. Because, it will definitely help you someday: to invest, take care of unseen circumstance or whatever. When you understand this, it will help you not to blame anyone for your financial actions or status.

For Christians or religious folks, God will not come down to help you manage your money or resources, but he can give you wisdom to do so. Stop giving legit excuses of your income not being enough: after removing your tithes, offering, alms, expenses, giving and other important stuff. Always save a certain percent of your income.

I think this was what a some folks, parents and leaders understood earlier in life. Saving is key for wealth building and done by people who have discipline and control over themselves”, as money is never enough. Study more and research on “how to manage your money or resources” or “how to discipline yourself” as this is just a tip of the ice-berg.
This is a thought-article on money or financial status.

WHY ANXIETY? MEDITATION IS PROFITABLE

MEDITATION SEEMS TO BE PROFITABLE, NOT ANXIETY
Have you ever met some folk who say they don’t want to think about anything? Or say that the doctor asked them not to think because they have hypertensive sickness or symptoms? Humans are created with a unique ability that can be referred to as thinking faculty otherwise called rationality. We possess logical ability and it is one of the things that make us different from each other or animals.

I will shed more light on the difference between meditation and anxiety:
Using the American English dictionary, meditation is a contemplative discourse, often on a religious or philosophical subject. As to meditate will simply means to contemplate or keep the mind fixed upon something.
While anxiety is define as an unpleasant state of mental uneasiness, nervousness, apprehension and obsession or concern about some uncertain event or things.

Using above definitions, in order to buttress my point: this is not to debate the origin of thought (whether, it’s the brain or soul that performs it). I am concern that meditation is having a kind of thought pattern that is good or healthy for one. Mediation is more of a mental exercise that helps to think, rethink and consider events or subjects (religious thoughts or not) you choose to. It may be in order to evaluate their implication and effect when making life decisions.

On the other hand, anxiety has to do with negative act or mental state. It is more of worrying about things that you are uncertain about neither do you have control over in the physical world. Anxiety has to do more with our physical needs, pleasures of life and desires or wants. It is actually looks absurd to worry about religious or spiritual things.

For Christian (religious folks), we have two powerful scriptures of the bible that tells us that meditation is good and produce good result (success) that can be brought to the physical world (earth). They are:

“This book of the Law shall not depart out of your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, that you may observe to do and do according to all that is written in it. For then you shall make your way prosperous, and you shall deal wisely and have good success.”     Joshua 1:8 AMP
“Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all.” 1Timothy 4:15KJV

It’s up to you what you meditate on, but know that it will definitely product result. Goodly meditation will surely produce good success. Why not meditate on spiritual matters or subjects and bring the physical manifestation to your world and society. This was the secret people like Confucius discovered in their early days and built his religion tenet on.

“Your thought is stirred by another thought, idea or something else”
Thoughts could come to you in different ways, through your physical senses (sight, hear, touch, smell), spiritual senses or matters, social or relationship events and many other ways. Just remember to meditate on the right, good and motivating ones because it will surely produce result.

Note: this article is aimed to suggest “meditation” in our daily activities for positive or good results and how powerful it is to meditate.

WHO ARE YOU? (know your priority, responsibility, identity)

WHO ARE YOU?
The fact is that: “Until you know who you are first, you cannot know who you are not. Else! One will be driven or push around by the people, factors and world that surrounds you.”

The moment you step aside and take time to discover yourself; what you want, like or interested in. Life becomes simple and less complicated as presented to you by others. Self-discovery and purpose cannot be jeopardized for anything in the quest of knowing yourself. This is that point when you critically assess yourself, not by asking others to tell you about yourself, neither is it by seeking for people’s opinion and comment. You need to find out, what are your priorities, responsibilities, goals, concern, purpose and other important values for you.

For instance, if someone who already knew my name, walk up to me and ask the question “Who are you?” I would definitely respond with this (cause it looks like a serious matter):
“I am a Christian, Minister, Leader, Male, Son, Parent to-be, Family member, Friend, Blogger, Content Writer and Nigerian by birth”
This list is organized in my own priority order from the most important to the least. If I am stripped or denied of any of these qualities or responsibilities, the only thing that will matter most to me and worth fighting for; is my “Christianity”. Because it is my relationship with God, faith and path I choose to follow. Not yours, and not because of others.

It simply means that in whatever I do, whatever I think about or whatever decision I want to make: whenever I am asked of my identity, I would never deny my relationship with God, as the rest are my relationship with others and the world.
Nonetheless, my responsibility to others and the world, reminds me that am not on earth to play or waste time. Neither am I a “lonely-ranger” – to exist for yourself and yourself alone. I do take my Christianity everywhere I go and into everything I do: family-life, business-life, social-life, job, country and to the world at large. This is what defines me, like it or not.

But, if you critically assess the above statement, you will definitely agree with me that it’s not the same for everybody. You must have met or seen people who love their job more than their family, love their marriage than their dreams, their friends than family or friends than work. It usually vary according to individual’s preference or interest.

It can be said that our responsibilities or identity to others and the world, can change at any time or period due to different reasons or factors around. But, we should not allow those factors to determine who we are or choose to be as they can be very misleading and unstable. For instance, you can change or be denied your citizenship, family rights, jobs, business, relationship and others… it still doesn’t change who you are.

My point remains that “knowing who you are or discovering yourself” does not only make you identify yourself, your responsibility and your purpose. It also makes you know “what you are not”. By this, you would be relieve of the burden of other people’s comment, opinion, judgment, suggestion or even attempt to change you.
It will make you more determined and focused on your own goals, dreams, aspiration and fulfillment in life, not living for others or how they want you to live your life. Above all, “knowing who you are” helps you to re-arrange your priorities in the right and best way you want.

Note: This article of thought is not written to give you steps on how to discover your purpose in life, what to like or not to, how to live … as there are enough books on these topics already. It is to question yourself about your priorities, responsibilities, interest and identity in order to act accordingly.
Be sincere with yourself, “Who are you?” I challenge you to write down yours!.
